WRITE A LETTER/EMAIL TO YOUR LEGISLATOR
Massachusetts Residents
It is vital that Massachusetts residents call or write their legislators to voice their opposition to the recently proposed Bill (House Bill no. 4500) proposed by House Rep. Brian Dempsey. This act "Authorizing the leasing of Certain Real Property known as Outer Brewster Island" calls for a 99-year lease of a National Park island "for the construction, operation and maintenance of a liquefied natural gas import facility, including without limitation [our emphasis] piers, wharves and other marine facilities, a liquefied natural gas storage and regasification facility and facilities for ancillary activities." If you believe that the State of Massachusetts should not be in the business of selling its public park lands and surrounding waters to a global power company without any limitations, then please, call or write your legislator and save the Boston Harbor Islands and the waters of Boston Harbor, which the taxpayers of Massachusetts have just finished cleaning up at a cost of at least $3.5 billion, for the people.
Read, feel free to edit and email or snail mail the attached letter to your state legislators. If you would like to bulk email ALL senators and representatives, you can download these files, copy and paste the email addresses into your email.
Senators email addresses
There are too many addresses for some email systems, so the list of Reps. had to be divided into two parts.

Letter to Legislators
Dear
I am writing you to let you know that I strongly oppose any effort to situate an LNG terminal on Outer Brewster Island. The United States has thrived with four LNG facilities serving the entire nation for the past 20 years. While our region’s energy needs are undoubtedly on the rise, shouldn’t we understand those needs before rushing to sell our precious natural resources to companies seeking fast profits at our expense?
An AES LNG terminal on Outer Brewster would:
- Irreparably destroy natural habitat and marine wildlife, including the harbor’s only major seal population, on and surrounding Outer Brewster Island while destroying a National Park, meant to be preserved for all and not sold for short-term interests;
- Have permanent, adverse economic impact on fishermen, lobstermen and recreational companies whose livelihood depends upon the health of waters surrounding the island;
- Cause rerouting of air traffic patterns and increase air traffic over harborside residential areas;
- Interfere with all recreational boating in Boston Harbor by creating an inescapable eyesore as well as big “no travel zones” in time-honored fishing areas, anchorages, and travel routes;
- Profit AES of Arlington, Virginia, at the cost of our peace of mind regarding the sanctity of our already dwindling wild and natural places;
- Bring tankers towering almost twice the height and ten times the width of Boston Light to Boston Harbor two times a week throughout the year, thus at least doubling LNG tanker traffic in Boston Harbor.
Please stand by Senator Robert Hedland and Representative Garrett Bradley, and strongly oppose this inappropriate and ill-advised proposition – for all of our well-being.
Sincerely,
